Calibration and smoothing

The calibration service enables finishing the surfaces of the panels or timber, perfecting the dimension precision.

Imola Legno has two smoothing machines in its Lugo factory:

  • Automatic discharge double smoothing machine
  • Wide format smoothing machine

Calibrated material is packaged with crossbeams and even with heat-shrinkable film upon request.

Timber cutting

The timber cutting service consists in cutting timber into pieces, according to the customer’s requests.

Imola Legno has three timber cutting units:

  • One-shaft units: The maximum processable dimension of the timber is: 6100 mm x 450 mm x 125 mm
  • Dual-shaft unit: The maximum processable dimension of the timber is: 7000 mm x 650 mm x 165 mm

Drying

The drying process enables progressively reducing the moist part of wood thus forcing the ageing of the wood by subjecting it to heat.
Imola Legno has 17 drying chambers, capable of meeting all customer and market demands. The drying chambers can be programmed with specific drying times and temperatures to meet various requirements and customer needs.
The chambers have a 1200 m3 overall drying capacity.

Jointing and optimisation

The optimisation and jointing unit enables processing low quality wood pieces to obtain high quality pieces by automatically eliminating wood defects. lmola Legno has an X-ray optimisation plant that enables ensuring the quality and consistency of the end products. The semi-finished material is packaged on crossbeams and tied using iron straps and protection nylon.

The maximum processable dimensions are (minimum – maximum):

  • Length 1600 mm – 6100 mm
  • Width 80 mm – 200 mm

Thickness 20 mm – 80 mm

Processing trunks

The trunks processing division is located at the Molfetta depot.
The unit is equipped with a bandsaw with 1600 mm flywheels, with a trimming machine and with a dual-shaft multi-blade, capable of cutting up to 150 mm thickness.
The unit is capable of producing timber and beams measuring up to 10 m long, transforming up to 40 m3 of trunks per day. This production capacity is applied for producing specific customised products, based on the customer’s requirements.

Processing structural elements

At our Imola production factory, approved by “Servizio Tecnico Centrale” (Central Technical Service) as a wood structural Elements Processing Centre, we – at Imola Legno – are capable of producing semi-finished and prefabricated products for the wood construction industry. Using our overhead crane, at our factory we pre-assemble prefabricated elements such as:

  • Framework walls
  • X-Lam walls
  • Hardware

At our Hundegger processing centre, we process beams with a maximum cross-section of 300×1200 mm, with maximum length of 16.50 m.

Production of heating pellets

Residues from processing virgin wood (sawdust and chips) are collected by means of suctioning and kept in special silos. Using the production unit located in the Lugo branch, sawdust and chips are compressed at high pressure and extruded to obtain wood pellets for heating.

Pallets production

We produce the following kinds of pallets at our Lugo factory production plant:

  • Standard pallets
  • ISPM15-certified standard pallets
  • Customised pallets

High frequency press

The high frequency press is used for gluing wooden elements. This unit is used for producing:

  • One-layer solid wood panels
  • One-layer jointed wood panels
  • Plywood strips

The maximum dimension of producible panels is 6000 mmx100 mm and they can be obtained in different types, according to the customer’s request.

The maximum length of the producible plywood strips is 6000 mm. Strips can come in different types, according to the customer’s request.

Panel cutting

The panel cutting service comprises optimising and cutting the panel according to the customer’s requests.

Imola Legno has four panel cutting units:

  • Angular unit: made up of two in-line cutting machines and an automatic discharger, the angular unit is a fully automated high-productivity unit, that is used for executing bulky orders. The maximum processable dimension of the panels is: 5700 mm x 2700 mm x 3 mm
  • Automatic loading unit: a medium productivity unit, used for medium and large bulk orders. The maximum processable dimension of the panels is: 4500 mm x 2200 mm x 3 mm
  • Front manual loading unit: a medium productivity unit, used for medium and large bulk orders. The maximum processable dimension of the panels is: 4500 mm x 2200 mm x 3 mm. The cut material is packaged with disposable pallets and heat-shrinkable film.

Moulding and profile edging

The moulding and profile edging unit is used for manufacturing customised semi-finished products, both in terms of quality and size. You may choose the type of profiles that suit your needs both in terms of standard and size.

The finished material is packaged on crossbeams and tied using iron straps and protection nylon.
